Where the Mic Drops: Open Mics & Mixers
Where the Mic Drops is Kinetic’s Open Mic & Mixer series—recurring intimate gatherings where art moves past performance into truth-telling and bearing witness. These nights are curated for creatives and culture changers to share new work, strengthen their craft, and build relationships in a room designed for experimentation, support, and cross-disciplinary exchange.
Each gathering holds a consistent rhythm: an open mic, a featured artist, and a featured conversation—all carried by intentional connection moments that help the room become more than an audience. Artists refine work in public. People discover what’s emerging. Collaborations begin.
What to expect
Open mic with open slots across disciplines (poetry, vocals, instrumentals, movement, and more)
A featured artist (a longer set that anchors the night)
A featured conversation with a creative—process, purpose, and the realities of making work that can bear weight
Intentional connection moments that support collaboration and community-building
An intimate setting—a safe space where truth can be spoken with craft and received with care
Clear pathways for deeper engagement through Creative Renewal Circles, Cohorts, and volunteering
Who it’s for
Emerging and mid-career artists who want stage time in a supportive, curated environment
People who see their work as culture work—truth-telling, and bearing witness in a distorted time
Audience members who want to discover artists and build community, not just consume content
Creatives and supporters who are drawn to spaces where community flourishing and the inner life are taken seriously
Creative Renewal Circles
We hold a simple conviction: creative life and inner life are connected. When the inner life is depleted, creative capacity narrows. When creativity is starved, the inner life often follows—our imagination dims, our agency weakens, and it becomes harder to stay connected to meaning, purpose, and one another. Creative Renewal Circles exist to tend that connection with intention.
These Circles are gatherings where people come to breathe, reflect, and reconnect—through conversation, creative practice, and community care. While Kinetic is an arts-focused organization (and some of our cohorts are arts-specific), we believe creativity isn’t reserved for professionals. It’s a human capacity: the ability to make meaning, to reframe experience, to shape something honest from what we’ve lived. You do not need to identify as an “artist” to belong here. If you are navigating burnout, grief, disconnection, transition, or the pressure to keep performing, these Circles offer a room where you can return to yourself—and to community—without pretense.
Creative Renewal Circles lean toward a liberative spirituality: a way of engaging the inner life that is honest about suffering, alert to injustice, and committed to repair. This is not escapism and not self-improvement theater. It is a practice of restoration that holds together truth-telling, dignity, and the cultivation of resilient hope—especially for those who have felt unseen or unsafe in rigid institutions. You don’t need to have it all figured out to show up. This is a space where your questions are welcome and your story matters.
What to expect
Honest conversation about meaning, purpose, and the pressures shaping our lives
Guided practices that support healing, resilience, spiritual growth, and holistic flourishing
Radical hospitality—a welcoming space, clear boundaries, and care for the whole person
Whether you come with a practiced spiritual life, deep skepticism, a quiet curiosity, or no particular framework at all—Creative Renewal Circles invite you into practices that strengthen your interior life, foster your creativity, and nurture collective resilience. This is not a space for posturing. It’s a space for restoration.
